Alyssa Pickens

NC Literacy Corp Member

Alyssa is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and NC State, where she earned BA in Media Studies and a MEd in Training and Development.
At UNC at Greensboro alyssa was the co president of a student organization called Advocacy for Access Action and Adaption providing a platform for students with disabilities on campus through dialog panels and events that aimed to address physical and social barriers to accessibility, such as Patient No More.
During her time at NC State she the pursued position with the NC State Science House where she served as both a Classroom Assistant and Social Media Coordinator. Developing her passion with working with kids with varying disabilities,  while volunteering with the Triangle Literacy Council as a Adult Basic Education English Second Language tutor.
With these combined experience, multifaceted background, and love of books, would help foster a love for reading for kids, diverse background.
Based in Chapel Alyssa likes books (including audiobooks they are real books too), movies and her cat.
