Amy Garner

Project Manager and Implementation Coach

Born in New York, raised in East Tennessee and moved to Upstate South Carolina her junior year of high school, Amy experienced different teaching styles and curriculums.  After playing volleyball for Newberry College, Amy transferred to the University of South Carolina to finish her B.S. in  Education.  She initially worked with the YMCA of Greensboro as a Family Services Director.  This position allowed her to help families by providing a safe place for the children after school as well as during the summer.  After working with the Y, she wanted to make a greater impact with kids. She later accepted a teaching position with Guilford County Schools and spent the majority of her teaching career in Title I schools. During that time, Amy saw educational inequity firsthand in a variety of ways.  In March of 2020, and schools were closed due to COVID-19, remote learning showed another level of inequity when students could not access their learning opportunities due to lack of technology and internet access.  By accepting a position with Helping Education, she hopes to make a difference across Guilford County instead of in one classroom.

Amy lives in High Point with her husband, two college-aged kids, one dog, seven fish, two frogs and one snail.  She loves to spend time with her family regardless of what they are doing. She is a HUGE fan of The Office (which she watches or listens to constantly) and a fan of University of Tennessee  – GO VOLS!
