HELPS Implementation Coach
I was born in Seoul, South Korea and immigrated to the U.S. when I was one years old. I graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.A. in psychology in 2020. Starting fall 2021, I will be a graduate student at Fordham University obtaining a specialist degree (Ed.S.) in school psychology with a bilingual extension.
I was introduced to Helping Education when I worked as an undergraduate research assistant for Dr. John Begeny as a tutor in the HELPS Program. During this time, I learned about educational inequity and the importance of an equitable education for students to reach their full potential. I also developed my passion to promote educational equity, provide culturally-responsive services, and to reach out to and work with diverse populations of students, families, and communities. My experiences working with many different students in the HELPS Program, CCR Mentoring Program for another professor in my undergraduate years, and at church, helped me further my interest and passion for education. Coming from a low-income, Korean immigrant, and first-generation college student background, I experienced the importance of quality education on a student’s outcomes. I officially joined Helping Education in June 2021.
Currently, I live in New York for graduate school. When I’m not working or at school, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, listening to music, embroidering, reading mystery and thriller novels, and watching movies.
