Pierce Watson

Deputy Director of K-12 Programs, Raleigh Office

Pierce was born and raised in Connecticut, spent his 20s in New York City, and moved to North Carolina in 2019. He graduated from Fordham University with a B.A. in English, and soon after, completed an M.A. in literature at Hunter College.

Though he began his career as a style and music journalist, Pierce soon developed a passion for education while tutoring part-time and never looked back. Since then, he’s had positions as a full-time tutor, classroom teacher, central administrator, and nonprofit program manager. In all those roles, Pierce has focused broadly on increasing educational equity and opportunity. He continues to volunteer with local nonprofits, leading students through workshops on studying, writing, and literary analysis. Pierce joined the Helping Education in October 2022 where he is a Project Manager and Implementation Coach.

Outside of work, you can find Pierce listening to hip hop, playing PC games with his fiancé, visiting thrift stores, and tossing a frisbee to his dog, Winston. He is also an avid reader and firm believer in the Oxford comma.
